Steffens’ school record secures win over St. Norbert

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — UW-Platteville's Caelyn Steffens set a program record Saturday for most goals in a single game with all six Pioneer goals being scored by the freshman from Normal, Illinois.
Steffens scored all six goals, two in the first and four in the second period with a pair in the 75th and 78th minutes to break a 4-4 tie that decided the final outcome.
Amber Lueder recorded three assists to Steffens for the afternoon.
The day was a wild match with the Pioneers and Green Knights trading goals back and forth before Steffens final two goals broke the 4-4 tie.
The Pioneers outshot the Green Knights 16-10 while St. Norbert held the 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. UW-Platteville put 13 of the 16 shots on goal with St. Norbert goalkeeper, Ally Magiera, recording seven saves.
Steffens sits first in program history with six goals in a single game and is tied for second with Pioneer standout Alli Metcalfe for most goals in a single season with 15 goals. Emily Dummer holds the record with 17 goals in a single season set in 1994.
Amber Lueder also made the record book after Saturay's game and is now tied for first in school history with seven season assists on the year.
The Pioneers return to action Sunday, Sept. 23 and hit the road for a match-up at Knox College at 3 p.m.
