Pioneers edged by #25 Spartans
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers fell 2-1 Wednesday night to the nationally ranked #25 University of Dubuque Spartans at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers fell 2-1 Wednesday night to the nationally ranked #25 University of Dubuque Spartans at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers played majority of the night tied 1-1, with Dubuque holding a 9-2 advantage on shots. The game remained tied until Dubuque scored late in the 82nd minute to put the Spartans up 2-1.
UW-Platteville's freshman Caelyn Steffens recorded the lone Pioneer goal of the game scoring right away in the 2nd minute of play. Steffens was assisted by Amber Lueder.
The Spartans fired back to tie the game in the 18th minute. The score would remain tied through the half and until the Spartans took the lead late in the game and the Pioneers were unable to find the net before time expired.
Dubuque had an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks and the night saw 27 fouls and 4 yellow cards. UW-Platteville's Kathryn Flaherty recorded two saves in the match up.
The Pioneers are now 4-2 overall with their first loss since Sept. 5. UW-Platteville will return to action on Saturday when they play host to St. Norbert at noon in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
