INDIANOLA, IA — The UW-Platteville Pioneers held the Simpson College Storm to just seven shots, but fell short Wednesday night in the 3-1 defeat.
UW-Platteville attacked strong and got on the board first with a left corner goal by sophomore Ashley Peck in the thirteenth minute of play. The Storm responded quickly less than two minutes later with a 30 yard out goal by Simpson's Jessica Payne.
The first half continued to play out with a second Simpson goal with ten minutes left in the half and the Pioneers continuing to formulate shots, with none successfully finding the net prior to the half.
In the second half, the Pioneers continued to dominate the field and break through the Simpson defense. UW-Platteville's Amber Lueder, Caelyn Steffens, Taylor Martin, and Peck all made attempts on goal prior to Simpsons' Dani Marquez finding Kaitlyn Bravek for a Storm goal in sixty-ninth minute of regulation, placing the home team with a 3-1 advantage where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
In all, Simpson's goalkeeper Madeline Schulenberg walked away with 12 saves for the night while the Pioneers allowed only six shots on goal compared to the home team's 13.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 8 for the first home game of the season. The Pioneers will be host to the visiting Beloit Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
