Pioneers pick up first victory ever vs UWSP
The 2016 University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team did something none of its predecessors had ever done: beat UW-Stevens Point.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The 2016 University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team did something none of its predecessors had ever done: beat UW-Stevens Point.
The Pioneers defeated the Pointers 2-0 Saturday in Stevens Point. their first win in 33 meetings since 1992. (The 2006 match ended in a 1-1 tie.) The victory moves the Pioneers to 6-8 on the season, and 1-3 in the WIAC conference.
The Pioneers started the scoring early, as Emily Phillips put the team on the board only 2:47 seconds into the game with her third goal of the game. The Pioneers quickly added another goal, with Yamilex Jaramillo scoring at the 25:26 mark in the first half. UW-Platteville was able to control the rest of the game, and the defense was able to prevent any comeback by the Pointers. The game ended in a 2-0 victory, and marks the Pioneers second consecutive victory. The loss drops the Pointers to 4-11 on the season, and 0-4 in conference play.
The Pioneers will return to action at home Wednesday Oct. 19 against UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. UW-Whitewater is 14-1 on the season ranked number 7 in the country.
