PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The women's soccer team earned their first victory since Sept. 1 in a dominating fashion on Wednesday night. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers had complete control over the field at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium, and proved it with a 4-1 win over the Clarke University Crusaders.
Within the first minute of the first half, sophomore Miranda Holle nailed an 18-yard unassisted shot to take an extremely early 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Holle attempted another shot which was blocked and wound up near the foot of junior Yamilex Jaramillo, who capitalized on her first of two goals on the night.
By the end of the evening Jaramillo had five shots, put in two, added one assist and now leads the team in goals on the year with nine.
About 25 minutes later, at the 30:56 mark, Clarke was able to cut the lead in half with their only goal of the night and allowed the Pioneers to go into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Following the break it took the Pioneers about eight minutes to find the back of the net for the third time as Alex Goff was marked with the goal off an assist from Jaramillo. A final insurance goal from Jaramillo at 69:01 ended the evening's scoring barrage and left the women with a 4-1 victory.
The Pioneers will try to continue their success with a matchup against UW-Steven's Point on Saturday at home beginning at 6:15p.m.
