PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (1-8) hosted the Eagles of UW-La Crosse (8-3) on Wednesday night at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneer women fell 2-1 by the end of the night, despite a late goal on the Eagles.
It took a while for either team to get going offensively, but about 22 minutes in the Eagles claimed their first goal on the Pioneers.
About six minutes before halftime, the Eagles were able to tack on one more against Pioneer goalie Mandy Taylor. Taylor finished a full 90-minute night in the net with four saves and allowed the two goals.
With about sixteen minutes left to play, Alex Goff rebounded a shot by Morgan Phillips into the Eagles net, to bring the game to within one. Unfortunately the strength of the UW-La Crosse defense prevailed and held off the Pioneers for the remaining minutes, winning the game, 2-1.
The Pioneers will take on Northland College on Saturday at a location yet to be determined.
