Pioneers top Cornell in first game of the season
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team defeated Cornell College 4-1 on Tuesday in Mount Vernon, Iowa, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 start to the season.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team defeated Cornell College 4-1 on Tuesday in Mount Vernon, Iowa, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 start to the season.
With an assist from sophomore Bianca Mahoney, fellow sophomore Anna Sobal scored the first goal of the game, followed by another goal shortly after by junior Yamilex Jaramillo.
At the beginning of the second half, freshman Morgan Philips recorded her first collegiate goal to put the Pioneers up 3-0 before Cornell could respond.
Sophomore Betty Rodriguez finished off the scoring for the Pioneers with a goal towards the end of the second half.
Junior Katie Rash logged five saves in the win.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. against Adrian at the Chelsea Lloyd Memorial Tournament in Aurora, Ill.
