PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team is coming off one of the best season in school history, finishing in the top half of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) stands for the first time in program history, but will need find a way to supplement the loss of eight seniors.
Head coach Allison Stringer brings back 15 letters winners from last year's team, who placed fourth in the WIAC with a record of 4-3-1, and will be very young with 12 freshmen.
UW-Platteville lost three of their top four scorers and one of its best defenders to graduation. Sophomore Yamilex Jaramillo and junior Julie Divita will look to replace the lost goals, while senior Lindsey Harms and sophomore Emily Phillips will anchor the defense. Jaramillo tied for second on the team with 12 points, tallying four goals and four assists. Divita registered the fifth most points for the Pioneers with eight.
UW-Platteville opens the 2014 campaign on Sunday against Cornell College at Dubuque Soccer Complex in Dubuque, Iowa, due to the damage of Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium by the June 16 tornado.
