Pointers slip past Women's Soccer, 1-0
On a rainy and blustery Saturday afternoon, the UW-Platteville soccer team fell to UW-Stevens Point, 1-0, in the Pioneers’ Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home opener.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – On a rainy and blustery Saturday afternoon, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville soccer team fell to UW-Stevens Point, 1-0, in the Pioneers' Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home opener.
The Pioneers outshot the Pointers 7-3 in the first-half as the game remained scoreless in a very wet opening half.
UW-Platteville had 11 shots in the final half and put eight of them on goal but couldn't get one past UW-Steven Point's goalkeeper Kristen Churkey. The only goal of the game came with 48 seconds left to go on Carly Falk's free kick that flew over everyone's head and bounce into the net from 37 yards out.
The Pioneers once again played very well but just couldn't produce a goal and moved to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in WIAC action.
UW-Platteville won't play again until Oct. 9 when they host UW-La Crosse at 6:30 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
