Four goals by Alexandra Watkins led host University of Dubuque to a 5-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team.
Watkins and the Spartans stretched a 1-0 halftime lead with four goals in the second half for the win. In addition to the four goals by Watkins, Melissa Sawyer added a penalty kick in the 68th minute. Dubuque (3-5-1) had 17 shots including five by Watkins to pace the Spartan attack in the win.
UW-Platteville erased the Dubuque shutout bid in the 75th minute when junior Melissa Dunlavy scored on a high line drive from just outside the box.
Dunlavy led the attack with six shots to lead a UW-Platteville attack that had 14 shots in the loss. With the defeat, UW-Platteville falls to 2-6 on the season.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. when they face UW-River Falls.
