Two second half goals by UW-La Crosse led the host Eagles to a 2-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team on Wednesday night.
UW-La Crosse (3-3-1, 1-0-1 WIAC) had 14 shots in each half but it was a pair of shots in the 70th and 88th minute that proved to be the difference.
UW-Platteville (2-5, 0-2 WIAC) had three changes in the closing minutes of the first half that were saved by Eagles' goalkeeper Sagan Pizzingrilli. The Pioneers' Sarah Eck had a shot in the early minutes of the second half sail wide.
UW-La Crosse went ahead 1-0 when Saskia Taylor scored her first goal of the season. The Pioneer attack sought to tie the game but the Eagles picked up an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Katie Tharp made a free kick.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back in its next contest when they travel to Dubuque on Wed., Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
