Four Pioneers Place at NCAA Region VII Regional
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville had two wrestlers place sixth and two place seventh in their respective weight classes at the NCAA DIII Region VII Regional, hosted Friday and Saturday at Augsburg University.

As a team, the Pioneers finished 11th out of 16 teams, scoring 42.5 team points. UW-La Crosse captured the top team spot with 192.5 points.
Sophomore Chris Karbash advanced to the 125-pounds top-eight consolation matches after defeating a pair of opponents by 16-0 tech. fall (3:25) and fall (6:31). After dropping Saturday's first match (fall 1:30), Karbash pinned Carthage College's Chris Kish (4:27) to win the seventh-place match.
At 133, freshman Brady Grennan advanced to the semifinals on Saturday after pinning (1:11) Joseph-Rodney Troyer of Pacific before defeating UW-Eau Claire's Travis Moelter by 20-9 major decision on day one. Grennan suffered a 7-1 sudden victory loss to Augsburg's Chance Suddeth in the semifinals and then dropped the consolation bracket semifinal (fall 1:09). Grennan finished sixth after withdrawing from the fifth-place match due to medical forfeit.
Senior David Cushman wrapped up his collegiate career with a sixth-place finish at 157 pounds. Cushman also had a great start to the tournament, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday after Cushman put together a late comeback 8-2 victory in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, Cushman dropped a 14-5 major decision and dropped to the fifth-place match due to a tie-breaker in the consolation semifinal between Landon Church of UW-Eau Claire. The Pioneer finished sixth for the second consecutive year as Karsen Otis of Augsburg won by an 18-2 (6:05) tech fall in the final match.
At 197 pounds, freshman Kain Killmer advanced to the top-eight consolation matches on Saturday after putting together two tech fall victories (16-1, 7:00) (22-6, 3:51) on Friday. Killmer dropped his first match on the second day of competition, but bounced back with an 18-3 tech fall victory (18-3) over D.J. Myles of St. Johns in the seventh-place match.
