WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville team competed at the 70th annual Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wrestling championships Saturday in UW-Whitewater's Williams Center.
The Pioneers finished fifth as a team with 25.5 points as UW-La Crosse claimed the outright title this year with 158.5 points after sharing the title last season with UW-Eau Claire.
Three Pioneers landed on the podium in their respective weight classes, including sophomore Chris Karbash at 125. After taking sixth in 2024, the Pioneer won the fifth-place match with a 15-0 tech. fall victory (4:07) over Grant Madl of UW-La Crosse. Karbash had already beaten Madl once earlier in the day with an 8-4 decision in the quarterfinals.
Freshman Brady Grennan placed sixth at 133 in his first appearance at the WIAC championships. Grennan suffered a tough 10-9 loss in the quarterfinal to Calvin Singewald of UW-Eau Claire, but bounced back with a fall over UW-Stevens Point's Oscar Estrada (1:22). Grennan exited his next match due to injury, finishing sixth.
Junior Blake Delsman placed sixth at 165 for the second consecutive year. Delsman won by a 20-6 major decision in his second bout of the day. The Pioneer followed it up with a 4-1 decision win to send him to the consolation semifinals. Delsman dropped his next match by a 4-1 decision, moving him to the fifth-place match where he fell by a 13-1 major decision to Preston Carlisle of UW-Eau Claire.
The Pioneers will return to action on February 28 when they compete at the NCAA DIII Upper Midwest Regional in Minneapolis hosted by Augsburg.
