Pioneers Compete at Pete Willson Invite
WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team competed at the two-day Pete Willson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College. Senior David Cushman, sophomore Chris Karbash and freshman Brady Grennan scored team points to highlight the Pioneers performance.
WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team competed at the two-day Pete Willson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College. Senior David Cushman, sophomore Chris Karbash and freshman Brady Grennan scored team points to highlight the Pioneers performance.
Wrestling at 157, Cushman went the distanced against all four of his competitors, including two major decision victories. Cushman moved to the consolation bracket after a narrow 5-4 loss in his first match on Friday. The senior won his next two bouts with 17-8 and 19-8 major decisions before exiting the tournament following an 8-0 major decision loss in the fourth round.
Competing at 133 pounds, Grennan opened his first appearance at the annual invitational with back-to-back wins of a 10-2 major decision and a 6-4 decision, advancing to the quarterfinal and scoring three team points.
Scoring two team points, Karbash advanced to the third round of the 125-pound consolation bracket after defeating his second opponent of the day by an 18-1 tech. fall.
The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, February 7 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for their final WIAC dual of the season. Wrestling is set to start at 7 p.m.
