Pioneers Blank Titans on the Road
OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team swept UW-Oshkosh 44-0 on the road Thursday night at the Kolf Sports Center. Five Pioneers picked up tech fall wins while one wrestler pinned his opponent and another won by major decision.

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team swept UW-Oshkosh 44-0 on the road Thursday night at the Kolf Sports Center. Five Pioneers picked up tech fall wins while one wrestler pinned his opponent and another won by major decision.
UW-Platteville improves to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC while the Titans fall to 0-7 and 0-5 in the conference.
Sophomore Chris Karbash kicked off the dual with a 17-2 tech fall (5:00) at 125 pounds. Freshman Brady Grennan gave the Pioneers a double-digit lead soon after when he pinned his opponent (2:19) in the first period of the 133 match. UW-Platteville extended its lead by three following freshman Garrett Marks' 18-12 decision at 141 pounds.
Junior Kyler Neuberger returned to the mat for the first time in over a year following an injury and picked up a 19-3 tech fall (4:03) at 149 pounds, which extended the team's lead to 19. Senior David Cushman made it back-to-back tech falls for the Pioneers as he picked up another five team points (TF 20-4 5:07).
Junior Blake Delsman's 21-15 decision at 165 secured a victory for UW-Platteville, but the Pioneers didn't back down and sophomore Cole Smith's 19-10 major decision extended the lead to 31-0.
With three weights remaining, junior Cal Ries (TF 19-3 4:57) and freshman Kain Killmer (TF 25-9 6:03) pushed UW-Platteville's lead to 41-0 and left it all up to senior heavyweight Alex Ashauer to complete the conference sweep. After a slow start, the senior pulled ahead to defeat the Titan 4-0 and locked in the Pioneer's first sweep in two seasons.
The Pioneers will return to action next Thursday, January 16 when they travel to the University of Dubuque for a non-conference dual against the Spartans at 7 p.m.
