Pioneer Wrestling Begins 2024-25 Season This Weekend
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team is ready to begin competing, with the 2024-25 season starting this Saturday at the Jim Fox Invite hosted by the University of Dubuque.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team is ready to begin competing, with the 2024-25 season starting this Saturday at the Jim Fox Invite hosted by the University of Dubuque.
The Pioneers will head to the Luther Open next weekend before traveling to Cornell for the season's first dual on Thursday, November 14. UW-Platteville then wraps up November with a WIAC dual in UW-La Crosse on Saturday, November 23.
The home opener will take place on Wednesday, December 11 a 7 p.m. against conference foe UW-Stevens Point. The Pioneers then wrap up 2024 at Dubuque before returning in early January at UW-Oshkosh. UW-Platteville will face UW-Whitewater at home on Saturday, January 25 before hosting the annual Throwdown in the Theatre and Senior Night on Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. against MSOE.
Following two more invites and a dual against UW-Eau Claire, the Pioneers will compete at the 2025 WIAC Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday, February 15. Two weeks later will be the Upper Midwest Regional, with the NCAA DIII Championships on the schedule for the middle of March.
Head coach Topher Carton enters his second season with the program and looks to build upon the Pioneers fifth-place finish at the WIAC Tournament a year ago.
Senior David Cushman, after placing eighth at the Upper Midwest Regional and sixth at the WIAC Tournament at 157 pounds last season, is among the returners for UW-Platteville. Junior Blake Delsman (165 pounds) and sophomore Chris Karbash (125 pounds) joined Cushman as sixth-place finishers at the conference meet last year.
In total, the Pioneers bring back 13 letterwinners while welcoming in eight newcomers.
