Pioneers Win Nine Matches in Home Opener Victory Over Titans
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team (1-1 WIAC) defeated UW-Oshkosh (0-5 WIAC) 45-3 Thursday night in the team’s home-opener in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers combined two falls, three major decisions, one decision and three wins by forfeit on their way to the victory. As a team, UW-Platteville totaled 16 takedowns on the night.
The Titans were first on the board with three points after a win at 125 following a 9-6 decision, but freshman Chris Karbash's (3-4) win by forfeit at 133 quickly put UW-Platteville ahead by three.
The Pioneers pulled ahead 12-3 following sophomore Alec Schmacht's (5-2) win by fall (4:34) over Andrew Schad at 141. Sophomore Carter Kruckeberg (3-3) made it back-to-back pins for UW-Platteville as he defeated Ira Schlottke (3:43) early in the second period, giving the Pioneers an 18-3 lead following the 149 match. Next, junior David Cushman (6-2) took to the mat for a win by forfeit which gave the Pioneers a 24-3 lead with five weights remaining.
Sophomore Blake Delsman (6-5) secured the win for UW-Platteville in the 165 match with a 13-4 major decision over Joseph Spizzirri. Another Titan forfeit gave junior Ryan Pothoof (6-3) a win at 174 pounds, and built UW-Platteville's lead to 31 points. Senior Marty Koenig (1-0) added another four team points at 184 pounds with a 12-1 major decision over Michael Loger. Junior Alex Ashauer (3-4) followed suit and added another major decision in favor of the Pioneers with a 13-1 victory over Matt Hanke. Senior Colton Grindle (3-2) closed out the night's wrestling and won what would be the Pioneers ninth-straight win of the dual with an exciting 8-7 decision over Camden Harms in the heavyweight.
The Pioneers have a short turnaround and will return to Williams Fieldhouse on Friday, Jan. 19 when they host UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
