Three Pioneers Named Academic All-District
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Seniors Brett Schoenherr, Nathan Wynsma, and Coy Ruess of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team were named to the 2023 NCAA Division III Academic All-District At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Monday.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Seniors Brett Schoenherr, Nathan Wynsma, and Coy Ruess of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team were named to the 2023 NCAA Division III Academic All-District At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Monday.
The Academic All-District Al-Large teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performances both on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be in sophomore, junior, or senior standing.
Schoenherr holds a 3.664 GPA as an animal science major and was named a 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American in March. The senior finished the 2022-23 season with a 26-0 record and placed fourth at 285 pounds in the WIAC tournament and sixth at the regional meet.
Wynsma was also a NWCA Scholar All-American and finished with a 3.680 GPA as an environmental horticulture major. The senior went 13-3 on the season at 165 pounds and finished runner-up in the conference tournament as well as sixth at regionals.
Ruess is a civil engineering major with a 3.964 GPA. The senior went 15-14 on the season and took sixth at the regional meet in the 165-pound weight class.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Wednesday, June 7.
