Hannah and Smith to wrestle at U.S. World Team Trials
Platteville, Wis.- Freshman Tyler Hannah and Assistant Coach Eddie Smith, of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling program, will compete in the 2022 USA Wrestling World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Coralville, Iowa, Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22.
Platteville, Wis.- Freshman Tyler Hannah and Assistant Coach Eddie Smith, of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling program, will compete in the 2022 USA Wrestling World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Coralville, Iowa, Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22.
Hannah will be wrestling Greco-Roman at 87 kilograms and is the fourth seed. He qualified for the event after finishing third at the 2021 USA Wrestling World Team Trials. Hannah has twice represented the United States in the Pan American Games, bringing home gold in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
Smith earned his spot in the trials with a top six finish at the U.S. Open trials in Las Vegas, Nevada, held April 27- May 1. Smith will wrestle Greco-Roman at 72 kilograms and enters as the sixth seed.
The USA Wrestling World Team Trials features top Olympic hopefuls in the three Olympic disciplines: men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. Winners will automatically qualify for the Final X in June. The Final X is the last step in the Senior World Team Trials process which will determine the 2022 U.S. Senior World Team that will compete in Belgrade, Serbia Sept. 12-18.
