Pointers take one from Pioneers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling suffered a 20-15 road loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Tuesday night in the UW-Stevens Point Multi-Activity Center.
Highlights of the night include five UW-Platteville victories and three Pioneers winning their match to remain undefeated in the season.
The dual kicked off at 174 pounds and senior Nick Dado started things off with his second win of the season, defeating Ben Kasten 6-4. Junior Jacob Sklenar followed at 184 pounds and defeated Taran Hollan with an 8-4 decision to take an early 6-0 Pioneer lead over the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point rallied with a major decision at 197 pounds followed by a 3-2 decision in the heavyweight. An open 125 pound gave UW-Stevens Point another opportunity to strengthen the lead to 13-6 and was followed by another Pointer major decision at 133 pounds.
The Pioneers fought back and senior Luke Pradel stayed undefeated this season with an 8-3 decision at 141 pounds. Junior Garrett Ruckdashel joined the fight for a comeback and won his bout at 149 pounds with a 4-3 decision. The Pioneers trailed 17-12 with two wrestlers left, but a late move during the 157 pounds match gave Luke smiley the 3-1 decision over junior Gannon Hughes.
With the dual's fate already decided, sophomore Nathan Wynsma was last to the mat for the Pioneers. Wynsma closed the night on a high note with an aggressive 11-4 win over the Pointer to win his second bout of the year and give the dual the final score of 20-15.

The Pioneers will return to action this Friday, Feb. 12 when they travel to UW-Whitewater with a triangular with UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. in the Williams Center.
