PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team fell to Augustana College, 23-21 Friday. Instead of holding this match in Williams Fieldhouse, the match was the "Throw Down in the Theatre" at the Center for the Arts. This provided a post-season atmosphere for the Pioneers.
"It was a great environment for our team to compete in and we are so grateful to Michael Breitner and his staff for their efforts. With the bright lights and crowd in the dark, it simulated the feel of wrestling in the national finals in a way," head coach Mike DeRoehn explained.
The Pioneers got wins from Zach Stenger (125), Alex Costello (141), Jon Goetz (174), and Grant Wedepohl (184). Stenger scored a 7-4 decision, while Costello, Wedepohl, and Goetz collected pins for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will regroup and head to south for the Wheaton Invite on Jan. 27.
