Pioneers beat #12 UW-Whitewater, improve to 4-0
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team continued its hot start to the 2016-17 season, defeating 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater 21-17 Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers improved to 4-0 with their first win over the Warhawks since 2007.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team continued its hot start to the 2016-17 season, defeating 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater 21-17 Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers improved to 4-0 with their first win over the Warhawks since 2007.
The teams split the 10 matches, but the Pioneers rode pins by Michael Belanger and Cody Meyer for bonus points to key the win. Belanger pinned Ryder Sigler in 4:09 at 165, while Meyer beat Riley Kauzlaric in 5:42 at 197. D'Andre Johnson clinched the win with a 5-0 victory at 285.
Scott Arneson (133) and Carter Barkema (149) earned victories in their matches during the Pioneers' final action before the holiday break.
UW-Platteville is off until competing in the Flash Flanagan Open Jan. 7 in Dubuque before putting its undefeated mark on the line against unbeaten and fourth-ranked UW-La Crosse. Action begins at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12 in Williams Fieldhouse.
