Four Pioneers place first at Super 8
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team hosted the Super 8 Invitational Saturday Nov. 5, and the Pioneers had four wrestlers take first in their weight classes. UW-Platteville and Central College both had four winners, which were the most of all schools.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team hosted the Super 8 Invitational Saturday Nov. 5, and the Pioneers had four wrestlers take first in their weight classes. UW-Platteville and Central College both had four winners, which were the most of all schools. No team scores were kept in the six-school meet.
Carter Barkema, Jon Goetz, Grant Wedepohl, and D'Andre Johnson all won their respective weight classes on Saturday. Freshman Barkema won at the 149-pound weight class by defeating Jordan Challen of Central College with a fall. Jon Goetz won finished first for the second year in the row as he won at the 174-pound weight class by defeating Eddie Smith of Loras. Grant Wedepohl also took first for the second straight year in the 184-pound class. He did so by defeating AJ McBroom of Central. D'Andre Johnson was victorious in the 285-pound weight class, as he defeated Quin Gillam of Loras.
The Pioneers have a very young team this season, with Zach Stenger as the only seniors on the roster. The Pioneers finished 1-4 in the WIAC conference last season, and 4-5 overall. Their next meet will be the Dan Gable Open at UW-Oshkosh Saturday, Nov. 12.
