Pioneer grapplers defeat MSOE 25-11
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 25-11 on Friday in Milwaukee, improving to 4-4 on the season.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 25-11 on Friday in Milwaukee, improving to 4-4 on the season.
Six Pioneers prevailed in their respective weight classes, including senior Cole Ferguson, freshman Trevor Harsh, senior Mason Bohm, sophomore Michael Belanger, freshman Grant Wedepohl and senior Bryant Etherton.
Ferguson won by a 5-1 decision against MSOE's Fitzgerald, taking charge of the 133-weight class.
In the 141-weight class, Harsh won by a forfeit, gaining a crucial nine points for the Pioneers.
Belanger defeated his opponent by a 9-3 decision in the 165-weight class, adding another three points on to the Pioneers' total.
When it came time for the 184-weight class, Wedepohl gained another three for the Pioneers, winning by a close 6-3 decision against MSOE's McCune.
The Pioneers' final three points came from Etherton, pinning his opponent late in the first round of the match to put the Pioneers up 25-8 against MSOE.
The 285-pound match featured a pair of ranked wrestlers in freshman Pioneer D'Andre Johnson and MSOE's Austin Bellile. In the final match of the evening, the No. 7-ranked Bellile scored a 10-3 decision over No. 8 Johnson, and the Raiders shrunk the gap to 25-11.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Jan. 29 at the Wheaton College Invitational at 11 a.m.
