PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling started strong, but faltered late in a 27-10 loss Wednesday to UW-Oshkosh at Williams Fieldhouse.
Freshman 125-pounder Zach Stenger started the Pioneers with an 8-5 decision over the Titans' Scott Worlund. Stenger scored six points in the third period to seal the victory.
Sophomore Mason Bohm picked up a major decision victory after defeating UW-Oshkosh's Hunter Mulock 12-1 at 141 pounds. Bohm dominated the match, allowing Mulock's lone point on an uncontested escape.
It was nearly all Titans from there, as the Pioneers fell in six of the last seven matches, as junior Bryant Etherton picked up UW-Platteville's last win on the night with a 5-4 decision at 197 pounds.
Sophomore Emeric Williams and senior Devin Johnson fell just short of wins in their matches at 149 pounds and 184 pounds, respectively.
Williams fell 4-2 in overtime after forcing the extra period with a clutch escape in the third period that tied the score, but could not fight off Titan Jerome Scott's takedown attempt in overtime.
Johnson dropped his match 5-4, with the decisive point coming from riding time for UW-Oshkosh's Korey Kleinhans.
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround after this duel, as they hit the mat again Saturday at the Flanagan Open at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.
