Pioneer Wrestling taken down by 21st-ranked Pointers
The UW-Platteville wrestling team fell to 27th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 38-6, on Friday in the Williams Fieldhouse.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team fell to 27th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 38-6, on Friday in the Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers two victories came from 125-pound Cole Ferguson and 174-pound Dylan DeShane.
After a scoreless first period, Ferguson, a sophomore from Joliet, Ill., scored a two-point near fall and then added three more points in the final period to defeat Ryan Osse, 5-0.
DeShane, a sophomore from Erie, Ill., tallied a takedown in the opening period. UWSP's Dylan Diebitz went on to score the only point in the second with an escape, 2-1. DeShane pushed his lead back to two points after earning an escape. DeShane then sealed the 8-3 decision with a pair of takedowns in the final minute of the third period.
The Pioneers won't return to the mat until Wednesday, Jan. 8 when they square off with 13th-ranked UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
