Bohm wins 141-pound title at Knox Invite
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team opened the 2013-14 season at the Knox College Invitaitonal on Saturday at Galesburg, Ill.
GALESBURG, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team opened the 2013-14 season at the Knox College Invitational on Saturday at Galesburg, Ill.
Sophomore Mason Bohm led the Pioneers by winning the 141-pound bracket. He began the day with an 8-0 decision against Wheaton's Gage Burt and the pinned his next three opponents to get in the finals. In the finals, Bohm won a 7-6 decision over Wheaton's Jared Fekete.
"Mason really came out and wrestled well, and the rest of our young guys showed some promise," said head coach Chris Walter.
Sophomore Dylan DeShane fell in the third-place match to Division II Truman State's Ryan Ward. DeShane was pinned in the championship quarterfinals by top seeded Thomas Reyhons from Augustana, but bounced back to win three-straight matches to get into the third-place match.
Freshman 285-pounder, Kyle Andreae upset three-seeded Steven Nyugen from MSOE, 5-1, in the first round. Andreae earned his first collegiate pin in the next round before falling in a 5-4 nail biter to Central's Jaimie Miranda in the semifinals. The Marshfield, Wis. native, dropped the next two matches to finish the day in sixth-place.
Senior Austin Holland began his day with a 12-4 victory over Augustana's Eric Timko and then fell to Central's Sam Apland in the quarterfinals, 8-1. Holland bounced back quickly winning his next two matches before falling to Division II Truman State's Chas Wristinger, 19-2, in the third-place bout at 174 pounds.
The Pioneers open the duel portion of the schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Augustana at 7:30 p.m.
