Henken is all set for NCAA Wrestling Championships
UW-Platteville’s Tyler Henken will represent the Pioneers at the 2013 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships Friday and Saturday, March 15-16. Action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cornell College (Iowa) is serving as host of the championships.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Tyler Henken will represent the Pioneers at the 2013 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Wrestling Championships Friday and Saturday, March 15-16. Action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cornell College (Iowa) is serving as host of the championships.
Henken starts his day on Friday against fifth-seeded Paul Marcello from Johns Hopkins and will wrestle either Brockport State's Jordan Dyer, UW-Eau Claire's or fourth-seeded UW-Whitewater's Jake Fredricksen in his second match.
Henken finished seconded at the NCAA Division III Wrestling West Regional two on March 2. He pinned Lakeland's Marcus McCauley at the 3:59 mark in his first match. Then in the semifinals, Henken was able to get an early lead over Augburg's Tom Kuehn and was able to ride out Kuehn for a 9-2 victory and earning a spot to nationals. In the finals, Henken fell to UW-Eau Claire's Nathaniel Behnke 7-0.
Session II starts at 6 p.m. March 15 with the championships quarterfinals on six mats. The consolation second and third rounds will also be held Friday night.
Session III begins at 10 a.m. March 16 with the championships semifinals, consolation quarterfinals and consolation semifinals on four mats. The consolation place matches for third, fifth and seventh-places will follow on three mats.
Session IV for the championship finals begin at 7 p.m. March 16 on one mat. The parade of NCAA III All-America wrestlers will be at 6:30 p.m.
