Puttkammer earns national scholar award

UW-Platteville's Krista Puttkammer earned a position on the 2002-2003 NGCA All-American Scholar Golf Team.

The graduated senior from Camp Douglas (Tomah High School) was one of 43 NCAA Division III student-athletes nationwide to earn this distinction.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 (3.40 for Seniors) and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Puttkammer earned a 3.85 grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. She was ranked 10th regionally and carried an 82.8 stroke average and was medalist at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational. She also won the WIAC's Scholar-Athlete Award in the fall.

Pioneers fifth at Augustana

The UW-Platteville women's golf team placed fifth among 12 teams at the Augustana Invitational Wednesday in Davenport, Iowa.

The Pioneers shot 347 on the afternoon. St. Ambrose won the meet with 324, followed by Illinois Wesleyan at 329, UW-Whitewater at 342, Millikin 346, and UWP and Mount Mercy at 347.

Linda Engelke was the top Pioneer finisher, recorded an 84, good for 11th place. Krista Puttkammer was one stroke back at 85, while Ahna Hendrickson and Rebecca Fish each shot 89, and Leann Austinson scored 96.

The Pioneers' other spring competition comes April 18-19 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.

Puttkammer is WIAC Scholar-Athlete

Madison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Krista Puttkammer has been named the 2002 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete, it was announced recently by WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner.

Puttkammer, a senior from Tomah, Wis., is majoring in civil engineering with a 3.82 grade point average. She is a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been named to her institution's Chancellor's List three semesters and Dean's List three semesters. Puttkammer was UW-Platteville's National Student-Athlete Day Representative and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, Tau Beta Phi and Chi Epsilon honor societies.

Puttkammer led the Pioneers at the 2002 WIAC championship with a 12th-place finish. She fired a 90 on the first day of competition and followed that performance with an 87. Puttkammer finished 15th last season at the league meet. Earlier this year, she became the first women's golfer in UW-Platteville history to win the conference's athlete of the week award.

She is the first Pioneer women's golfer to win the conference's scholar-athlete honor.

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is sponsored by Culver's. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.

Pioneers are fifth in WIAC

UW-Platteville women's golf team earned a fifth-place conference finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship at the Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac, WI over the weekend. Host UW-Oshkosh got the first spot shooting a 676, followed by UW-Eau Claire with a 695, UW-Stevens Point with a 731, UW-Whitewater shooting 737, UW-Platteville earning a 746, and UW-River Falls with a 784.

The Pioneers' Krista Puttkammer took the 12th spot shooting a 177, Leann Austinson earned 13th tying her best score on the season shooting a 84 on Sunday and a 178 on the tournament and Linda Engelke took 17th with a 187.

UWP finished a strong season of competition in only their second year of competing as a team. The Pioneers will lose four-year letterwinner Puttkammer to graduation, but will return the rest of the team for an experienced squad next season.

Pioneers finish 9th

The UW-Platteville women's golf team took 9th place at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational over the weekend. The Pioneer women competed against nineteen other schools on the and shot a 755 to place them in the top 10. Krista Puttkammer led the team with a 7th place finish shooting a 167. Linda Engelke placed 23rd with a 183, Anna Hendrickson came in 48th with a 201, and Leann Austinson finished 58th shooting a 204.

The Pioneers will return to Oshkosh for the WIAC conference meet on Oct. 5th and 6th.

Pioneers finish 15th

UW-Platteville women's golf took 15th at the Illinois Wesleyan Golf Classic over the weekend. Platteville's Krista Puttkammer shot a 165, finishing 31st for the weekend. UWP's Linda Engelke scored a 172, Leann Austinson and Ahna Hendrickson each shot a 180. Pioneer women's golf will travel to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational next weekend.

Pioneers earn historic win

The UW-Platteville women's golf team earned its first-ever tournament victory Tuesday, winning the four-team Clarke College Invitational at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Dubuque.

The Pioneers, in their second year of competing as a full team, edged Loras for the title. The Pioneers shot 336 over 18 holes, while the Duhawks scored 338.

Krista Puttkammer (Sr., Tomah), fresh off her WIAC golfer of the week award, shot an 80 to place second. Ahna Hendrickson (Fr., Lodi), who shot a blistering 37 on the back nine, was third with 81. LeAnn Austinson (Fr., New Holstein) tied for sixth with 85, while Linda Engelke (So., Lancaster) was eighth with 90. Stacy Giorno (Fr., Kenosha) placed 12th to round out the Pioneer five.

UW-Platteville is back in action this weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.

Puttkammer is WIAC golfer of the week

UW-Platteville's Krista Puttkammer earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golfer of the week award.

Puttkammer, a senior from Tomah, becomes the first UWP golfer ever to win that award.

She earned a first-place medal at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational last weekend with a two-day score of 171 to lead the Pioneers to a third-place finish. She fired an 82 on the second day to earn medalist honors.

Pioneers just strokes from title

UW-Platteville's Krista Puttkammer earned a first place medal at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this past weekend with a score of 171 to lead the Pioneers to a third place finish. UWP was only four strokes away from UW-Whitewater who won the tournament scoring 735. UW-Eau Claire earned second place finish with a 736, followed by UWP with a 739 and UW-Stevens Point scoring a 745.

UW-Platteville's Linda Engelke earned sixth place with a 180, Leann Austinson scored a 188 to grab a ninth place finish and Anna Hendrickson placed 19th with her score of 200. UW-Platteville is in action on Tuesday at Clarke College.

Pioneers are fifth at Whitewater

The UW-Platteville women's golf team placed fifth out of 11 schools at the UW-Whitewater Invitational this past weekend. The Pioneers totaled a 709 to put them ahead of six other schools.

UW-Oshkosh won the invitational with a 668 followed by UW-Eau Claire with a 669, Illinois Wesleyan with a 673, UW-Whitewater shooting a 705 and UW-Platteville rounding out the top five. Knox College, Monmouth College, UW-Stevens Point, Elmhurst College, Carroll College and Grinnell College all finished behind UWP

UW-Platteville's Krista Puttkamer shot a 161 to earn a second place finish. Linda Engelke scored a 173 to get 17th place, LeAnn Austinson shot a 185 giving her the 34th spot and Ahna Hendrickson scored a 190 to place 42nd for the Pioneers.

UW-Platteville will travel this weekend to play in the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.

Pioneers finish 7th of 13

Led by senior Krista Puttkammer, the UW-Platteville women's golf team took seventh place among 13 teams at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

Puttkammer tied for medalist honors with UW-Oshkosh's Carrie Detjen and UW-Whitewater's Lisa Irons with 167, forcing a three-way playoff. Detjen captured the playoff, while Puttkammer was second. She shot 85 Saturday and 82 Sunday.

The host Blugolds won the team title with a 689, six strokes better that runner-up UW-Oshkosh. The Pioneers totalled 722, beating conference schools UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point.

Linda Engelke and Leann Austinson tied for 31st, while Ahna Hendrickson was 48th for the Pioneers.
