PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville golf team is participating in Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program, honoring Army Major Christopher Splinter, a Platteville, Wisconsin native, who was assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, based in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
"It is a privilege to have the opportunity to be a part of the Folds of Honor Program this year, representing Major Splinter. The program means being a part of something much bigger than myself, or my round that day, said sophomore Sydney Kilcoin. "It means honoring those who made, and make it possible for me to do the things I love on a daily basis."
The Pioneers will take turns throughout the year carrying a customized golf bag in Major Splinter's honor. Each Pioneer will also carry a golf tag that commemorates Major Splinter. With the joint effort of the FOH, and the Women's Golf Coach Association (WGCA), the UW-Platteville golf team hopes to raise fund to help provide scholarships and other assistance, to give back to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country.
A 1990 graduate of the UW-Platteville's ROTC program, Major Splinter, took his bachelor's degree in business administration and went on active duty. He died on December 24th, 2003 and survives by his wife Penny and their children Mitchell and Rachel.
