Pair of Pioneers in the Top 20 After Day One of WIAC Golf Championships
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team is in fourth place after Friday's opening round of the 2012 WIAC Women's Golf Championship at Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
UW-Whitewater is the first round leader after posting a round of 344, +56, the Pioneers are 21 strokes back after recording a 365, +77. Individually, UW-Platteville is led by senior Kellsey Welter, who is tied for second after a round of 83 (+11). She is tied for second along with three others and they are just one stroke back of Nicole Wescott of UW-Whitewater.
Also in the top 20 for the Pioneers is senior Kelsey Lieving, who shot an 88 (+16) and is tied for 11th. Freshman Taylor Egnarski and sophomore Katie Gregorich are tied for 33rd after shooting identical scores of 97 (+25). Junior Stacy Heiling is tied for 40th after a 101 (+29) and sophomore Ashley Morales is 45th after a 106 (+34).
Due to an expected frost in the area, Saturday's second round will not get underway until 11 a.m.
