Lieving Shoots 80 in Final Round of WIAC Golf Championship to Lead UW-Platteville
University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golfer junior Kelsey Lieving shot her best round of the fall, posting an 80 in Sunday's final round of the 2011 WIAC Golf Championship on Sunday at at Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
The Geneseo, Illinois native started her back nine with a birdie on No. 10 to finish the three-day tournament with a 255 (86-89-80) to finish tied for seventh. The 80 by Lieving matches the performance by Linda Engelke in 2003 and Ahna Hendrickson in 2005 for the fifth-best round at the WIAC Championship by a Pioneer.
Kerrie Liske shot a final round 88 to finish with a 271 (92-91-88) to finish 24th and teammate Kelsey Welter also shot an 88 for a 54-hole total of 263 (87-88-88) en route to a 17th-place finish.
Ellyn Subak closed out her UW-Platteville career with a final round 93 to finish the tourney with a 276 (94-89-93) and 31st place finish. To round out the UW-Platteville lineup, Katie Gregorich shot a 101 for a total of 311 (106-104-101) to finish 46th.
The Pioneers as a team finished in fifth place with a 1,065. UW-Eau Claire won the team title with a 54-stroke victory and Mary Welch of UW-Stevens Point edged Catherine Wagner of UW-Eau Claire for medalist honors with a 238 (79-78-81).
