UW-Platteville Makes 28-Stroke Improvement in Final Round of UW-Oshkosh Women's Golf Invitational
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville made a 28-stroke improvement in Sunday's final round of the UW-Oshkosh Women's Golf Invitational to finish fifth. The Pioneers shot a 348 in the final round after posting a 376 in Saturday's first round at the Oshkosh Country Club in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
UW-Stevens Point was the tournament champion with a two-day total of 667 (338-329) to edge Carroll University by two strokes. Mary Welch of UW-Stevens Point took home medalist honors with a 153 (81-72) to move ahead of first day leader Erin Holston of Carthage by two shots.
Senior Ellyn Subak improved by five strokes in Sunday's final round with an 81 to move into a share of fifth-place honors. It is the second top 10 finish for Subak in her career. Also moving into the top 10 was Kelsey Lieving, who finished ninth. For Lieving, it is her sixth top 10 finish in her career. To work her way into the top 10, the Geneseo, Illinois native shot a final round 81 for a two-day total of 170 (89-81). Senior Kerrie Liske shot a final round 92 for a two-day total of 185 (93-92).
To round out the UW-Platteville lineup and making the most significant improvement was Prairie du Chien native junior Kristie Waynick, who cut her score by 15 strokes with a final round 94 after a first round 109 for a two-day total of 203. Freshman Katie Gregorich lowered her score by three stroke on Sunday to finish with a 219 (111-108).
The Pioneers are back in action at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18 at the Ironwood Golf Course in nearby Normal.
