Pioneers face #22 Warhawks

UW-Platteville suffered a 79-65 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night.

UW-Whitewater started the game with a 3-pointer by Nicole Bundy. UW-Platteville never gained a lead over the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater gained its biggest lead of the night with a score of 32-16. The Pioneers fought back, going into halftime down 39-32.

UW-Platteville pulled within five and shot 70% from the free throw line, but that was not enough to overcome the strong offense and defense of the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater was led by Bundy and Cortney Kumerow with 29 and 25 points, respectively. The 38 rebounds of UW-Whitewater surpassed that of UW-Platteville, who recorded 29 rebounds.

Charity Stotmeister led the Pioneers with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Claire Poad added 17 points and 3 rebounds, while Stacia Nemitz followed with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

In the past three games, the Pioneers have played the #20 (UW-Stevens Point) #21 (UW-River Falls) and #22 teams (UW-Whitewater) in the D3hoops.com poll.

The Pioneers are 9-8 overall and 2-6 in the WIAC, and the Warhawks are 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the WIAC.
