Pioneers vs. Warhawks

The UW-Platteville women's basketball team suffered a conference loss Wednesday night 88-77 to UW-Whitewater.

The Pioneers came out strong in the first half, shooting 67 percent from the field. The score was close throughout the entire first half. The Pioneers went into half time up by one with a score of 48-47 on a three-pointer by Ashley Wolf.

The second half started off the same as the first half and the lead continued to go back and forth between UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater. The Pioneers tied it last at 68-68 with 6:21 left on the clock on a free throw by Charity Stotmeister, but the Warhawks scored the next seven points to take the lead for good.

Stotmeister recorded a new career high 24 points, surpassing her previous high of 23. Stacia Nemitz added 23 and Claire Poad added 11 for the Pioneers.

Nicole Bundy led UW-Whitewater with 30 points, followed by Kelsey Hendrickson and Heidi Sonntag who both scored 17 points.

Stotmeister had 19 and Bundy 20 in the high-scoring first half.

UW-Platteville is now 5-8 in the WIAC and 12-10 overall, while the Warhawks improved to 16-6 overall, 9-4 in the WIAC. The Pioneers play UW-Stout Saturday at 4 p.m.
