Pioneers earn win vs. Titans

The UW-Platteville women got back in the win column with a 54-46 victory over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday on Bo Ryan Court. The Pioneers went on a 7-0 run after leading 42-40 and held the Titans to one field goal in the final 8:50.

In a game that saw 14 lead changes and five tied scores, the Pioneers scored 19 points on 29 Titan turnovers. Coach Tina Kuhle's club only committed 11 turnovers themselves. The Platteville defense held Oshkosh to a field goal percentage of 29.2 in the second half after allowing Oshkosh to shoot 45 percent from the floor in the first half.

Charity Stotmeister led the Pioneers with 18 on was 7-12 from the floor and played all 20 minutes in the second half. Fourteen of Stotmeister's points came in the second period. Ashley Wolf added 15 points.

Oshkosh's Shelby Churchill pulled down 19 rebounds, tying a conference high for 2009-10. Freshman Katie Kitzke led the Titans with 10 points.

Despite being out rebounded 41 to 24, Platteville relied on pressure defense and forcing turnovers to improve to 11-9 overall and 4-7 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Oshkosh fell to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in conference.
