Nemitz, Grantman lead Pioneers

Stacia Nemitz set a UW-Platteville record with 15 free throws, and Lisa Grantman shook off an early injury to score 12, leading the Pioneers to a 60-54 win over UW-Superior Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.

Nemitz made 15 of 18 from the line to record a career-high 22 points. She broke Crystal Stietz's 2002 record of 14 with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

Grantman made two free throws with 3:28 remaining to give the Pioneers the lead for good at 53-52. The Yellowjackets were still within one point with under a minute to play, but Brianna Klaas made one of two free throws with 40 seconds left; Charity Stotmeister made a pair with 28 seconds to play; and Nemitz finished it off with her record-breaker.

The Pioneers held a huge advantage at the line, making 28 of 39, while UWS hit 4 of 8 in a game that featured 11 ties and 26 lead changes.

Nemitz, who had 18 points Wednesday, finished with 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Grantman, honored before the game as the team's lone senior, rebounded from an lower leg injury to score 12 points and grab seven rebounds. She now has 995 points in her bid to become to the eighth player to score 1,000 points.

The Pioneers improved to 8-14 overall and 5-9 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Hailey Hart scored 12, and Anna Peterson 11 for Superior, now 4-19 overall and 0-15 in the WIAC.
