Pioneers fall to Millikin

November 29, 2006

UW-Platteville, playing without injured starter Lisa Grantman, fell 65-58 at Millikin Wednesday night. The Pioneers dropped to 4-2 on the year, while the Big Blue improved to 3-1.

UW-Platteville kept the game close throughout but never was able to grab a lead. Millikin led 30-23 at halftime, and the closest the Pioneers came in the second half was three points at 43-40. The Big Blue then scored six straight points for a 49-40 lead and held off the Pioneers.

Freshmen center Liz Wisdom led the Pioneers with 15 points, while freshman guard Brianna Klaas added 12, and senior center Liz Tesch scored 10. Grantman, averaging 10.6 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game, missed the contest.

Lindsay Ippel led a balanced Millikin attack with 13 points, and Laura Engstrom added 12.

The Pioneers open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday at 5 p.m. vs. UW-Stout in a game to be taped for Fox Sports Net. That is part of a doubleheader with the men's teams from both schools, who tip-off at 3 p.m. One ticket is good for both games. The Blue Devil women are ranked sixth in the nation, but were stunned upset at UW-Eau Claire, 59-44.
