Pioneers click inside and out

January 7, 2006

Holly Kaiser supplied the inside game, while Emily Adrian and Jessica Brandau provided the outside punch in leading UW-Platteville to a 66-53 win at UW-Superior Saturday.

The Pioneers won their fourth Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game in five outings while improving to 8-5 overall. The Yellowjackets fell to 2-10, 0-6.

Kaiser matched her career high with 25 points, reaching the same number she had in the previous WIAC road game, a victory at UW-Stout. Kaiser made 9-13 from the floor and 7-9 from the line.

Adrian recorded nine assists, the most for a Pioneer since Katie Freis had 10 at Minnesota State Mankato in December, 2003, while Brandau knocked down three three-point shots and finished with 11 points.

UWP led 25-21 at the halftime and gradually pulled away in the second half.

Whitney Johnson led UW-Superior with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jenny Carlson added 14 points.

Kaiser, Michelle Hardyman and Jill Rajek each grabbed six rebounds to pace the Pioneers, who next play at UW-Whitewater Wednesday at 7 p.m.
