Pioneers end semester with win

Dec. 22, 2004

UW-Platteville's game with Edgewood Wednesday was pushed back one hour because of a chemistry final exam in Williams Fieldhouse. Once the floor was cleared, the Pioneers displayed their own good team chemistry.

With four players scoring in double figures, the Pioneers beat Edgewood 73-39 for their fourth straight victory.

Liz Tesch scored 15 points, while Michelle Hardyman, Holly Kaiser and Shannon Boatman all had 10 in the balanced attack.

The Pioneers led 35-20 at the halftime break, only to see Edgewood creep within 41-31 on Potosi native Jordane Kittoe's back-to-back three-point shots. The Pioneers then scored the game's next 17 points, with Tesch scoring five and Rachel Korth and Boatman four each during 17-0 run which stretched for more than seven minutes.

UWP improved to 6-2 overall, while Edgewood fell to 6-5. Kittoe led the Eagles with 12 points, while Nickie Updike had 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Pioneers open play in the Clarke College Holiday Tournament Monday vs. Mount Mercy at 1 p.m. UWP will play three games in the eight-team tournament, which concludes New year's Eve.
