Four Pioneers Named Academic All-District
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Seniors Addison Baierl, Macey Banasik, Brynlee Nelson, and Makayla Mau of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team were named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team it was announced on Tuesday.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Seniors Addison Baierl, Macey Banasik, Brynlee Nelson, and Makayla Mau of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team were named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team it was announced on Tuesday.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performances both on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be in sophomore, junior, or senior standing.
Baierl, a health and human performance major with a 3.890 cumulative GPA, averaged a career-high 5.1 points per game across her 25 games played. The senior also posted career-bests in rebounds per game (5.2) and assists per game (1.0) while playing just over 22 minutes per game. Baierl scored a season-high 13 points in the Pioneers upset win over WashU back on December 7.
Banasik, who holds a 3.777 cumulative GPA as an elementary education major, started all 25 games for the Pioneers while averaged 5.0 points and 1.7 assists per game. The senior was the team's top three-point shooter, connecting on 41.7 percent of her attempts. Banasik reached double figures in three games, matching her career high of 11 points twice on the season.
Nelson, an elementary education major with a 3.991 cumulative GPA, played in 19 games for the Pioneers, starting 18. The senior scored 8.1 points per game, adding 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. Nelson's best game of the season came in early February, when she scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting at UW-Stevens Point.
Mau played in all 25 games for the Pioneers, starting five, across nearly 11 minutes per game. The health and human performance major boasted a 3.853 cumulative GPA while averaging 2.6 points per game. Mau scored a season-high eight points in back-to-back games, including a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance in a win at UW-Eau Claire on January 15.
