Three Pioneers Earn WIAC Postseason Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomore Ella Mackiewicz of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team was named to the 2023-24 All-WIAC Team the league announced on Tuesday. Senior Sarah Mueller earned a spot on the WIAC Honorable Mention team, while senior Addison Baierl received All-Sportsmanship honors.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomore Ella Mackiewicz of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team was named to the 2023-24 All-WIAC Team the league announced on Tuesday. Senior Sarah Mueller earned a spot on the WIAC Honorable Mention team, while senior Addison Baierl received All-Sportsmanship honors.
Mackiewicz raised her scoring average from her freshman campaign over four points to finish at 15.7 per game, which ranked fourth overall in the WIAC. The sophomore started all 26 games, shot 50.2 percent from the floor, and was second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game. Mackiewicz tallied a pair of double-doubles and scored a season-high 25 points in a two-point win over UW-River Falls on February 3. The Shawnee, Kansas native reached the 20-point plateau in seven contests and scored double-digits in all but four games on the season.
Mueller started all 26 games and put together career-highs in points (13.2), rebounds (5.5), and blocks per game (0.6). The senior finished atop the WIAC in field goal percentage at 56.7 percent while shooting 40.5 percent from three-point range and 73.3 percent from the free throw line. Mueller recorded three double-doubles on the year, including a 22-point, 21-rebound performance in a win over Northwestern (Minn.) in late December.
Baierl played in the Pioneers final six games after missing much of the season recovering from an injury. The senior scored two points and grabbed seven rebounds while playing 28 total minutes in those games.
