Pioneers’ rally falls short at Wheaton
WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team’s second half rally fell short Saturday night as Wheaton College (1-1) defeated the Pioneers (1-2) 61-53 in King Arena.

WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team's second half rally fell short Saturday night as Wheaton College (1-1) defeated the Pioneers (1-2) 61-53 in King Arena.
The Thunder pulled ahead 30-15 after the first half and UW-Platteville responded with 38 points in the second half to outshoot Wheaton 21-16 in the final quarter, going 9-of-10 from the foul line.
Sophomore Brynlee Nelson led the Pioneers with 12 points and added two steals, four rebounds and one assist. Junior Sarah Mueller and sophomore Macey Banasik scored eight points apiece and freshman Ella Mackiewicz recorded a team-high six boards.
Caroline Sikkink led the Thunder with 23 points and Annika Richardson pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Overall, UW-Platteville shot 25.9 percent (15-of-54) from the floor, 19 percent (4-21) from the three-point arc and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the foul line.
Wheaton finished 39.2 percent (20-51) from the field, 30 percent (3-of-10) from three-point territory and 64.3 percent (18-28) from the free-throw line.
After the two-day tournament, Banasik was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when the team travels to Luther College with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
