Pioneers outlasted by No. 13 Titans

The UW-Platteville women's basketball team (6-14, 2-7) suffered a 65-55 loss Wednesday night to UW-Oshkosh (17-2, 7-2) inside Williams Fieldhouse. Ranked No. 13 in the country, UW-Oshkosh led all 40 minutes, but the Pioneers remained within striking distance the entire game. UW-Platteville fell behind early 6-0, but Maiah Domask scored the final five points of the first quarter to pull the Pioneers within 15-18. Keeping the deficit in single digits the entire second quarter, the Pioneers headed to the locker room down 35-28. The conference leading Titans extended their lead to as many as 15 in the second half. An energized Pioneers team responded with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to six with 2:59 remaining, but were unable to get any closer in the final minutes. Allison Prestegaard led the Pioneers in scoring with 14 and fell one rebound short of a double-double. Domask scored in double digits for the second consecutive game, finishing with 12, and Kassie Buchholz added 10. UW-Oshkosh was led by Eliza Campbell and Isabella Samuels who each had 12 for the Titans. The Pioneers remain at home this Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against UW-La Crosse. |
