UW-Platteville's attempt at being the first team to defeat UW-River Falls since November came up short as the Pioneers fell 45-79 Wednesday night inside Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers held with the Falcons early finishing the first quarter down just two at 16-18, but a strong UW-River Falls (12-2, 3-0) team pulled away by scoring 48 points in the second and third quarters. UW-Platteville falls to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC.
Miranda Meland led the Pioneers with eight points while Allison Prestegaard, Caitlyn Tipton, and Kassie Hansen each had six. Brynn Liljander of UW-River Falls topped all scorers with 22 points.
UW-Platteville travels to UW-La Crosse this Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Eagles.
