The UW-Platteville women's basketball team earned a road victory Wednesday, holding off Carroll University 78-73 in a battle of Pioneers in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
UW-Platteville built a 69-59 lead with 4:24 to play on a Rachel Emendorfer free throw. Twice in the final minute, Carroll's Sarah Hartl hit three-point baskets to bring the home squad within three, but each time the visitors answered. Blaire Lutes made two free shots with 38 seconds left for a 75-70 lead and one of two 25 seconds later for a 76-70 advantage. Hartl drained a three-pointer with five ticks left to make the score 76-73, but Jalen Knowlton sealed the game with two successful free shots a second later for the final 78-73 score.
Coach Megan Wilson's club improved to 3-4, while Carroll fell to 1-6.
Lutes led UW-Platteville with 26 points, making 10-13 from the floor, while Allison Prestegaard added 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Amber Williams grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Brittney Wald scored 19, and Hartl added 18 for Carroll.
The Pioneers play host to Edgewood College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the final home game of 2017.
