Pioneers unable to down Falcons

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville dropped a hard fought game 79-83 against Concordia Wednesday night at Williams Fieldhouse. Although UW-Platteville held only one lead, they kept within shouting distance the entire game.
The Pioneers (2-3) fell behind early and struggled to keep pace with the Falcons (2-2). With a minute remaining in the first quarter UW-Platteville saw themselves down by 12, their largest deficit of the game. The Pioneers cut Concordia's lead down to seven by the end of the quarter on a Jalen Knowlton 3-pointer and a pair of free throws by Maiah Domask.
UW-Platteville trailed by as many as 10 early in the second before they began breaking into the Falcons lead, and finished behind just 37-38 at halftime. A Pioneers' 24-point second quarter was headed by trio of Miranda Meland threes, her third coming as time expired in the half.
After an even matched third quarter UW-Platteville had a great opportunity heading into the fourth, down just 55-57. Back to back baskets by Morgan Horstman gave the Pioneers their second tie of the game at 57-57, and their first lead of the game 59-58 with 6:49 remaining. The Falcons retook the lead 20 seconds later and pulled away from the Pioneers over the next six minutes. UW-Platteville got back within two, but with only one second remaining the Falcons sealed their win with a pair of free throws.
Domask scored a career high 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to record UW-Platteville's first double-double of the season. Meland and Kassie Buchholz added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Rachel Emendorfer had four assists and a pair of steals to lead the Pioneers.
Four scored in double digits for the Falcons, and Audrey Scharmer led all scorers with 25.
Coach Wilson's Pioneers stay home for a matchup against Wartburg this Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in Williams Fieldhouse.
