Luther College bolted out to a 21-4 lead and held on to beat visiting UW-Platteville 73-60 Tuesday night in Decorah, Iowa.
The Pioneers trimmed that large deficit to 36-24 at halftime and came within 55-49 in the third quarter but could get no closer. UW-Platteville dropped to 1-2 on the year, while Luther improved to 2-2.
Morgan Horstman paced the Pioneers with 14 points, while Kassie Buchholz and Maiah Domask each had nine. Domask ripped down a team-high 12 rebounds.
Katie Waller had 24 points and Claire Marburger 22 to account for the bulk of the Norse points.
Coach Megan Wilson's team returns to action Saturday against Ripon at 3 p.m. on By Ryan Court, its first game on the home court since Ryan was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Sunday.
