Pioneers earn first victory against Blackburn
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team closed out the Wheaton College Tournament with a victory Saturday over the Blackburn College Beavers, winning in a rout 88-36. The victory was the Pioneers’ first of the season after two losses.
WHEATON, Ill. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team closed out the Wheaton College Tournament with a victory Saturday over the Blackburn College Beavers, winning in a rout 88-36. The victory was the Pioneers' first of the season after two losses.
Three Pioneers scored in double figures, as Cassie Hamer scored 18, Allison Presegaard scored 15, and Blaire Lutes scored 13. The Pioneers dominated early, and led 27-8 at the end of one quarter, and had a 45-16 lead at halftime. The Pioneers kept the pressure on Blackburn, and coasted through the second half to a 88-36 win. The loss drops Blackburn to 0-3 on the season.
Prestegaard, who was named to the all-tournament team this weekend. A sophomore center from Amboy, Illinois (Ashton-Franklin Center High School), scored seven points and three rebounds in the first game against Trine. In Saturday's route of Blackburn, the sophomore scored 15 points and added eight blocks and three rebounds to help lead the Pioneers to victory.
The Pioneers next play Tuesday against Luther College at 7 p.m. The game will be the Pioneers first home game of the season. Luther is 0-3 on the season.
