Pioneers fall on road in season opener
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team opened its season on the road Tuesday in Mequon, Wisconsin with a 66-63 loss to the Concordia University Falcons. The Pioneers were led by Allison Prestergaard’s double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Morgan Horstman who scored 21.
MEQUON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team opened its season on the road Tuesday in Mequon, Wisconsin with a 66-63 loss to the Concordia University Falcons. The Pioneers were led by Allison Prestergaard's double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Morgan Horstman who scored 21.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and led the game at the half 30-28, but a big third quarter by the Falcons keyed their victory. The Falcons were led by Samantha Blissett and Taylor Delong, who both scored 14, and Clara Chambers who added 11.
The Pioneers out rebounded the Falcons, but had nine more turnovers in the game. The game was tied with under 30 seconds to play until a free throw gave Concordia the lead, and following a missed shot by the Pioneers, Samantha Blissett knocked down two more free throws to give the Falcons a three-point lead. Blissett blocked Horstman's three-point attempt at the buzzer to give the Falcons a season opening victory.
The Pioneers will next hit the court Friday against Trine University to open the Wheaton College Tournament. The game will be played in Wheaton, Illinois. Trine opened its season on Monday with a 80-71 exhibition victory over IPFW.
